Russ Hinz is a Partner in Digital and Technology Transformation at Chartis. Russ is a seasoned health care technology executive with extensive experience in electronic health record (EHR) implementation, digital strategy, clinical operations, and medical informatics. He is known for leading large-scale transformation initiatives, guiding organizations through complex change, and aligning clinical, operational, and technology teams to achieve measurable improvements in patient access, quality, and efficiency.
With a background that spans enterprise EHR deployments, international digital modernization efforts, and community-based health initiatives, Russ brings a unique blend of strategic insight, operational discipline, and hands-on leadership. He has directed the launch and optimization of Epic and Oracle Health systems across diverse care environments—including hospital, ambulatory, specialty, laboratory, and post-acute settings—ensuring readiness, performance, and sustainable adoption.
Russ has also developed and led large-scale extension programs that provide community organizations, medical groups, and health centers with clinically integrated EHR capabilities. These programs support broad networks of partners and are built on principles of shared governance, financial sustainability, and standardized care delivery.
His global consulting includes advising major international health institutions on EHR optimization, digital workflow redesign, clinical transformation, and the development of future-state digital strategies. Russ is recognized for his ability to work across cultures and healthcare systems, aligning technology investments with long-term clinical and operational goals.
Russ has overseen high-impact public health initiatives, community health access programs, and large-scale clinical operations projects. His work includes designing technology-enabled models of care, supporting population health efforts, and strengthening care delivery in underserved communities.
Russ also serves as an executive coach for health technology and EHR leaders, helping executives and project directors navigate complex implementations, stabilize performance, and build strong governance and leadership structures. He received his MS in Medical Informatics from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh.
