Chartis, a comprehensive healthcare advisory firm, today announced that Melissa Childress recently joined the firm as Principal within its Oncology Solutions practice. Childress has more than 25 years of experience in all facets of oncology care delivery, including strategic planning, developing and implementing new care models, and optimizing operations.

“We’re delighted to welcome Melissa to Chartis,” said Kelley Simpson, Director and Chartis Oncology Solutions Co-Leader. “Melissa’s success in developing proven oncology care solutions helps propel healthcare organizations to the forefront of cancer care. She’ll be a catalyst for helping clients optimize their performance and drive growth in both clinical and research-based environments.”

Prior to joining Chartis, Childress served as Chief Operating Officer for University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center, Vice President of Cancer Services for Winship Cancer Institute of Emory Healthcare, and Associate Executive Director of Business Development for The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

During her tenure at these institutions, she oversaw innovative capital projects that enhanced patient throughput and efficiency, and she facilitated building networks with community-based systems to deliver specialized oncology services. Her teams increased access to care and operations that better complemented clinical research.

Childress serves on thought leadership councils and frequently publishes articles on innovative care models that measurably improve financial returns and the patient experience. She recently co-authored a research report on using a multidisciplinary clinical model for successful cancer treatment that appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Childress also frequently presents at national and international healthcare conferences, including the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health and the American College of Healthcare Architects Summer Leadership Summit. She is past President of the Association of Cancer Executives and currently a Director on its board.

Childress holds a B.A. in History and Renaissance Studies from Ohio Wesleyan University. She earned her Master of Business Administration from Franklin University in Columbus, OH.
