Serdar Uckun, MD, PhD, is a Partner focused on clinical transformation in the Center for AI and Digital Transformation. He is an entrepreneur, venture builder, and technology leader with over 30 years of experience at the intersection of healthcare, artificial intelligence, and engineering. Serdar has a proven track record of 0-1 innovation, having founded or co-founded five companies and led international mergers and acquisitions. His expertise spans biomedical informatics, genomics, biotech, data sciences, and industrial AI.
Serdar joined Chartis in February 2026 through the acquisition of Leap AI, a venture studio that he co-founded to develop new ventures at the confluence of Generative AI and healthcare. Prior to Leap AI, Serdar was the Co-founder and CTO of Novity, Inc., where he led the engineering organization for a cloud-based SaaS platform specializing in industrial diagnostics and prognostics. He also served as the Founder and CEO of CyDesign Labs, where he secured $10 million in government contracts and led the company’s acquisition by ESI Group. His leadership experience includes management roles at Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) and NASA Ames Research Center, where he received the NASA Exceptional Service Medal. Serdar is the founder and first President of the Prognostics and Health Management Society, a scientific and technical non-profit organization with thousands of members worldwide. He also served as the Associate Editor of the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine journal (Elsevier) for several years.
Serdar holds a Ph.D. and a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Vanderbilt University and Bogazici University, respectively. He earned his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from Ege University and completed a Postdoctoral fellowship in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at Stanford University. He is a prolific inventor with twenty-eight U.S. patents.
