Mikko Koskinen, PhD, is a Partner at Chartis, bringing deep expertise in artificial intelligence and data science to the firm. With over a decade of experience applying AI and advanced analytics across healthcare, pharma, and biotech, Mikko focuses on helping healthcare organizations harness the transformative potential of AI—from strategy through implementation. His expertise spans AI strategy development, treatment optimization, genomics-driven precision medicine, clinical data science, and the design and deployment of production-grade AI systems in complex healthcare environments.
Prior to joining Chartis, Mikko served as Chief Technology Officer and Co-founder of Geneleap, a venture studio spin-out building an AI-powered software platform for treatment optimization based on individual whole genome sequencing, with an initial focus on Major Depressive Disorder. In this role, he built the company's AI pipeline and software platform from proof of concept through development, led technology and product teams across two countries, and participated in the regulatory approval process. Concurrently, as CTO and Senior Partner at Leap AI, a venture studio focused on companies at the intersection of AI and medicine, he was responsible for scientific and engineering R&D, venture feasibility analysis, and product engineering across the studio's portfolio.
Before his venture work, Mikko served as Competence Area Lead for Data and AI at Reaktor, a premium technology consultancy, where he managed a team of up to 60 data scientists, engineers, developers, and designers. He grew the firm's AI business, opened new accounts, and developed its generative AI capabilities. In prior roles at Reaktor, he served as a Senior Advisor—creating AI strategies for clients in pharma, biotech, and security––and as a Senior Data Scientist, where he designed and built production AI solutions for pharma and biotech clients, including R&D tools, MLOps pipelines, and consumer-facing analytics products. Earlier in his career, Mikko worked as a Senior Data Scientist at Turku University Hospital, building predictive models and digital tools to support patient care and medical research.
Mikko's career is grounded in a strong scientific foundation. He completed postdoctoral research in neuroscience at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, where he built advanced experimental systems combining microscopy and electrophysiology. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Physiology and Neuroscience from the University of Helsinki, where his research focused on the molecular mechanisms of learning and memory, and a Master of Science in Chemistry with advanced studies in Neurochemistry from Stockholm University.
Before his career in science and technology, Mikko served as a Special Forces team leader in the Finnish Defense Forces, leading joint operations in international deployments. He is a decorated veteran, recognized for exceptional service.
