Principal

Maureen Ward is a Principal in Clinical Transformation. Her career in healthcare spans over 25 years, 15 of which have been spent in management consulting. The remaining years have been in senior operations leadership roles in provider and payer organizations. Maureen specializes in strategic initiatives such as primary care transformation, care model redesign, and operationalizing value-based care for care delivery enterprises, clinically integrated networks, and accountable care organizations (ACOs) to manage value and risk.

Prior to joining Chartis, Maureen served as Senior Director, Population Health and Clinical Innovation, with Medica Health Plan providing health insurance for 1.7 million members in commercial, individual, family, Medicare, and Medicaid markets. In this role, she led the strategic identification and development of new and innovative products for market implementation, leveraging provider and vendor partnerships to deliver membership growth and medical trend, quality, and provider engagement performance objectives.

Her work with Medica focused on engaging providers, care teams and care management resources using population cohort analytics to develop and execute care management strategies, care models, and interventions to improve member health, quality performance, and profitability and decrease total costs. She was accountable for population analyses, health management services, and the clinical and financial performance of six commercial ACO initiatives and a Medicaid at-risk collaboration with a Minnesota county provider partner.

Previously, Maureen was the Senior Director of Care Model Innovation with MHealth Fairview, an integrated delivery system with both academic medical center and community-based facilities and services. There she led the transformation of 42 medical group clinics and guided more than 450 primary care and specialty providers. Extensive performance measurement, process and technical infrastructure, and cultural change management requirements were executed.  She also developed and implemented virtual care services for large employer groups, and designed, developed, and launched collaborative payer products using high value networks requiring new business models and analytical infrastructure.

Maureen received her Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota, and her Bachelor of Science in health education from the University of Illinois.
