Alan Perkins is a Partner in Digital & Technology Transformation. He has over 25 years of experience in healthcare, spanning software development, project management, executive leadership, and consulting. His areas of expertise include large-scale organizational change, healthcare system mergers and affiliations, PMO and IT governance, electronic health record implementation and value realization, EHR and ERP system selection, eHealth, strategic planning, collaborative problem-solving, and process improvement.
Alan has held a variety of roles in which he has provided executive level leadership to achieve strategic initiatives. Prior to joining Chartis, Alan worked with University Hospitals Health System in Cleveland, Ohio, where he served as Divisional CIO for the enterprise Electronic Health Record, overseeing EHR implementation and optimization across an eight-hospital system. His experience also includes serving as Associate Vice President for Clinical Informatics for Houston Methodist. In this role, he provided executive leadership for the successful IT integration of two hospital acquisitions and a newly constructed hospital, and he led an initiative to standardize and integrate multiple clinical imaging systems across inpatient and outpatient venues of care.
Recently, Alan led the IT integration design and planning efforts for the creation of Beth Israel Lahey Health, a thirteen-hospital health system in Massachusetts which involved the union of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Lahey Health, New England Baptist, Mount Auburn Hospital, and Anna Jacques Hospital. This work included the evaluation of options for EHR, ERP, and analytics platforms.
Alan is a member of HIMSS and the Project Management Institute (PMI). His recent publications include a presentation at the 2017 HIMSS Annual Conference: “Managing a Legacy Team in an EHR Transition,” and a Chartis Forum white paper, “The Critical Role of Information Systems in Realizing the Strategic Goals of a Partnership.”
Alan holds a Bachelor of Science, Applied Science, in systems analysis from Miami University of Ohio (Magna Cum Laude). He also holds the Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification through the Project Management Institute and the Lean Six Sigma certification from Aveta Business Institute.
