Shannon Brownell is the Chief Operating Officer at Chartis. In this role, she has primary responsibility for accelerating Chartis’ operational performance and leading the execution of the firm’s growth strategy, in collaboration with leaders across the firm.
Prior to this role, Shannon served as the firm’s Chief Talent Officer for 10 years, where she was responsible for leading all aspects of talent management, including recruiting, learning and development, benefits and compensation, diversity and inclusion, and performance management. She has more than 20 years of experience in strategic thought leadership, program design, and change management in a professional services environment.
Before joining Chartis, Shannon served as Director of Talent Management for McKinsey & Company, overseeing talent initiatives for the firm's 8,500 professional staff in 100 offices worldwide. At McKinsey, Shannon led the design and implementation of a standard competency model, performance management system, role architecture, and learning curriculum for colleagues spanning more than a dozen functions.
Previously, Shannon managed McKinsey's North American Retail Practice, overseeing a team of knowledge and research professionals and helping to shape the practice's client, knowledge, and people agendas. She initially joined McKinsey as a consultant in the firm's Chicago office, serving clients in the retail and financial services sectors on organizational and marketing topics.
Shannon earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where she was named a Wallman Scholar. She received her Bachelor’s degree in business administration with highest honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
