Alejandro Dan Mendoza, M.D.
Alejandro Dan Mendoza, M.D. is a practicing board certified psychiatrist, and is the Director of System Integration, Department of Psychiatry, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. In this role, he coordinates the development of behavioral health programs across the Beth Israel Deaconess hospital network. This includes the development of a consult-liaison service, initiating a telepsychiatry program and coordinating the establishment of collaborative care across the recently merged Beth Israel Lahey Health System. Dr. Mendoza also serves as Chair, Department of Psychiatry, Beth Israel Deaconess Plymouth as well as the Medical Director, Consultation Liaison Service, Beth Israel Deaconess Milton and Beth Israel Deaconess Needham.
Dr. Mendoza has devoted his career to building integrated care programs. Recently, he led the implementation of a 3.8 million dollar grant from the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission which included 3 new programs: (1) Integrated Care Initiative (embedded social workers, Psych NP) in 4 primary care practices, (2) integrated behavioral health in a community-based emergency department (embedded social workers, Psych NP), and (3) development of a complex care program to decrease ED utilization and readmission for dual eligible patients (Medicare and MassHealth) and high utilizers of hospital-based services.
Dr. Mendoza is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with subspecialty board certifications in Addiction Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine. He completed his internship, residency, fellowships and Chief Residency at Harvard Medical School, including being the first PRIME Fellow (Psychiatry in Primary Care Fellowship). He is Lecturer on Psychiatry, Part Time, Harvard Medical School. His areas of interest include Neuropsychiatry, Neuroimaging, General Hospital Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, Psycho Oncology, Psychiatry in Primary Care and TeleMedicine.
