The Chartis Group, a leading provider of comprehensive advisory services and analytics to the healthcare industry, announced that David Butler, M.D., joined the Informatics & Technology practice last month as a Principal.

“The addition of David to our team will be a further catalyst in our work with clients to accelerate the digitally driven shift in care delivery and demand for a consumer-centric experience,” said Jody Cervenak, Director, Informatics & Technology co-leader. “David is an accomplished physician technology executive at the intersection of clinical care delivery and healthcare technology—passionate about fixing U.S. healthcare via frictionless technology and digital transformation.”

Butler’s career in healthcare has spanned more than 20 years as an internist and pediatrician, physician executive, and consultant. Prior to joining The Chartis Group, Butler founded digital healthcare consultancy Calyx Partners, where his focus was technology adoption within medium- to large-scale healthcare delivery systems, health plans, software vendors, and life sciences to help create effective population health programs, patient portal services, physician burnout mitigation techniques, and more robust clinical and IT alignment. Prior to Calyx, Butler served as a Vice President at Sutter Health where he had leadership responsibilities for all EHR implementation, support, and optimization initiatives across a 24-hospital system in Northern California.

“The Chartis Informatics & Technology practice is an unparalleled partner to healthcare organizations in their digital transformation journey,” said Butler. “It is an honor to join the practice and continue to help those organizations realize value and meet the demand for a consumer-centric experience through technology-driven solutions.”

Butler completed his clinical training at Baylor College of Medicine (Internal Medicine and Pediatrics). He received his medical degree from University of Texas Medical School (Houston) and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Texas A&M University.

He is a national speaker, author, and thought leader, and he serves on the teaching faculty of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). In 2021, Butler was chosen as a Fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association (FAMIA) for career contributions to and professional accomplishments in the field of Applied Clinical Informatics (ACI). In 2013, Epic Systems chose Butler as the Physician of the Year (PACademy Award®) for his meaningful contribution to Epic Systems and healthcare clients.
