Member profile: Laura
How did your previous work experience and academic training prepare you for the work you do at Chartis?
While in business school, I had many opportunities to explore healthcare through classes and projects. For example, I assessed patient access for an ambulatory clinic at an academic medical center and quantified the market potential for a new imaging modality for breast cancer. In both of these projects, I worked closely with medical and administrative staff to understand the managerial challenges, analyzed data to test our hypotheses, and developed presentations to communicate our findings.
In addition, I have four years of consulting experience in the transportation and logistics industry. During this time, I honed my critical thinking skills, developed the tools to solve problems collaboratively with my clients, and adjusted to life on the road.
What did you think of the Chartis recruiting process and how did it affect your decision to join?
Interviewing at Chartis is a very different experience than other firms. The recruiting process centered on understanding my thought process, and how I would address the challenges facing healthcare delivery organizations. Throughout the process, each Chartis member I met was genuine, engaging, and passionate about the industry.
As a candidate, I was impressed with the commitment (at all levels of the organization) to the recruiting process. From my future peers to the managing directors, Chartis members reached out to me to answer questions and share their experiences. By the time I accepted my offer, I already felt like I was part of the team.
What keeps you at Chartis?
I was attracted to Chartis because of its mission to materially improve healthcare delivery. Since joining, I have been continuously impressed by how that mission influences our daily work: from the clients we work with, to the engagements we pursue, to the way that we approach the problems.
Chartis has mastered the art of challenging its employees to develop new competencies and providing professional growth opportunities, while at the same time creating a safe and encouraging learning environment. Everyone at Chartis wants you to be successful; your colleagues have your back. I find it incredibly rewarding to work with and learn from such a talented and diverse group of people.
